A conman tried to persuade an Aldridge pensioner into having double glazing, claiming he would face a fine from council chiefs if he refused.
The cold caller said the elderly man's home in Whetstone Lane must be energy efficent, but he turned him away.
John Beavon, head of Walsall Council trading standards, said "It is not true to say that people will be fined by the council if their home is not energy efficent.
"This particulat tactic was extremly worrying for the gentleman concerned and we want to trace the company or individual involved.People should not be pressured by cold callers.
