Opening of Tesco Express is put back.

The opening of a new Tesco Express in Aldridge has been delayed for the second time, bosses said today. The store in Paddock Lane which replaced the Aldridge Tavern, was due to open on Thursday.

But manager Claire Allan said this had now been put back and an official date had not been decided.

No reasons for the delay have been revealed. It was originally due to open on November 6th but was put back two weeks.

New store manager Claire Allan said "We 've recruited a great team of people and I'm looking forward to working with my new staff. We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store in Aldridge and look forward to playing an active role in the local community. The store has already courted some controversy, springing up despite residents campaigning against it claiming it would attract traffic nuisance, yob behaviour and boozing.(This did not happen at Daves Supermarket in Station Road which closed down a couple of years ago approx 300 yards away).

Last week Walsall Council granted Tesco permission to sell alcohol between 8.00am and 11.00pm against the advice of some local residents and police.

When it eventually opens the store will open from 06.00am - Tesco logo23.00pm and include a bakery and a cash machine.

Bourne Technical Mouldings

btm:

Bourne Technical Mouldings is a totally customer-focused, flexible supplier. We have built a successful business by supplying our customers with products and services, at high quality, reasonable cost and efficient time-scale BTM has a 99.9% on-time delivery record - that enables those customers themselves to be successful.

BTM is one of the fastest growing injection moulders in the country-region.We won a prestigious GTMA Engineering Excellence Award in 2005, and specialise in the provision of bespoke, high quality production plastic injection mouldings, many of which require specialised secondary finishing operations, for example the mouldings for car headlamp clusters, which need to be “aluminised” to provide the reflective inner surface of the lamp.

In the automotive supply chain only the highest quality is acceptable, so quality is at the heart of everything that BTM does. To ensure that BTM can support the requirements of our first tier customers we have successfully completed quality audits undertaken by those companies over a number of years to ensure compliance.

From its conception, Bourne Technical Mouldings has been working towards ISO/9001, and implementing a wide range of production processes whose aim is to embed quality throughout the business. Maintenance of a high quality standard is essential to the future business plan of BTM and therefore the overall responsibility for quality is held at director level with assistance from an outside consultant with many years of experience in the automotive industry.

We strive to cover all markets and all customer types, and our experienced, hands-on management team welcomes your enquiry of any type, quantity, material or process. Do not be put off by our technical reputation this makes us even more able to handle the less technical demands of other customers. We, naturally, offer you advice on the correct materials and design, to optimise your requirements, notwithstanding no obligation quotations, to enable us to work together to produce cost effective mouldings.

One of the most valuable benefits that Bourne Technical Mouldings offers its customers is the ability to provide additional capacity to overcome short-term peaks in demand at very short notice, with 24/7 operation being available if required.

Longer-term plans envisage BTM remaining a high-value, high technology, high quality supplier, increasing its capabilities and capacity through investment in additional equipment and staff training, supporting the move into the provision of more technical parts using even more exotic materials. The success of the company has been built, carefully, step-by-step and relies on a firm foundation of investment in skills and equipment and an in-depth understanding of its customers and their requirements for quality, reliability and price.

We have recently purchased an additional 250 Tonne press, thereby increasing our capacity in that particular range.

We would be honoured to host you at our premises, and should you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Aldridge Lions

The Aldridge and District Lions Club are extremely active and the lead up to Christmas is one of the busiest times for the Club members.  In order to maintain the level of activities undertaken by the Club, the Aldridge Lions are seeking new members.

On 14th November, the Lions will be holding an open “drinks & nibbles” evening in Stonnall where people can come along, relax over a drink and talk to the members about the work of the Lions.  Club President, Clyde Redfern, said, “Being a part of the largest worldwide charity organisation, we are very keen to see the work of the Lions in Aldridge and District continue and increase.  Over the years we have raised much funding to support needed requirements in the local area as well as supporting programmes both nationally and internationally.  We have a very keen group of people but we do need more support to maintain and improve the work we do.  When we are able to support some of the needs of people, particularly those within our local area, it does give some degree of satisfaction but the great thing is that we have a lot of fun whilst we do so.”

It is no coincidence that the date of the drinks & nibbles evening is the same as the BBC Children in Need Appeal.  The Aldridge & District Lions have on previous occasions raised funds for this appeal as they have for many other similar worthwhile causes.

To obtain further information on the open evening, contact Mike Barker (01922 456558) or Harry Fry (01922 451638) or you can meet the Lions at Tesco in Brownhills this weekend – 25th & 26th October when they will be collecting for their charity fund and distributing information.

The Lions will also be having their normal Christmas collections, complete with Santa and his sleigh, at Morrisons in Aldridge on 29th / 30th November, Asda at Queslett on 13th / 14th December and Tesco in Brownhills on 20th / 21st December.

The Lions’ Santa and sleigh will also be supporting the Aldridge Village Business Partnership at their party for the Christmas lights switch-on to be held in the Aldridge precinct on 5th December at  4:00pm.

Clyde Redfern said, “Over the next few weeks we are going to be very active in the area and we hope that many people come to talk to us about the work of the Lions.  It is very rewarding work and the more people we can involve the more people we will be able to help.”
