A 45 year old Walsall Wood man who carried out a string of sex attacks on a school girl has been jailed for four years.Judge Nicholas Webb also ruled that Robert Wood should register as a Sex offender for life and be barred from ever working with children.Wood,of Vigo Road, had been convictined by a jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court on two charges of sexual activity with a child and another of attempted rape. The judge said the offences, committed over a two year period, were extremely serious and he told Wood. There is no alternative but to impose a sentence of imprisonment which will be of some length.
He said it was certain that on one occasion, drink had been consumed and Wood had also tried to get his victim to watch a pornographic film.Mr Jas Mann, defending, stressed to the court that Wood had not groomed the girl and added there were opportunitic offences. He also stated Wood was a man who was used to drinking large amounts of alchol and maintained that it plainly affected his judgement.
