Beacon memorial disc

Ideas from Walsall people are wanted about what to include on a feature which is being replaced at Barr Beacon Nature Reserve.

A panoramic disc showing local land marks and features is to be recreated for the war memorial at the reserve and Walsall Council want peoples views on what should go on it.People can have their say during a walk around Barr Beacon on December 10th.

Walsall Councils countr side service along with the Rotary club of Aldridge and the Barr Beacon Trust have organised the event, which will be from 10.00am to noon.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, chairman of The Barr Beacon Trust said 2The memorial was constructed in 1933 in memory of people from Staffordshire and Warwickshire who died in World War 1.

It was also in memory of the Late Colonel J.H.Wilkinson (1845 -1931) who purchased Barr Beacon in 1918 following the break up of the Scott familys Great Barr Hall estate and gifted it to the public as a public open space and beauty spot shortly after.

Originally the memorial had a "topographic" or panoramic disc on its central plinth detailing the surrounding area and land marks.

So we are really pleased to see a replacement is soon to be installed.

To take part in the walk contact Senior countryside ranger Diana West on 01922-459813
