Hundreds of runners did not let heavy downpours put them off their stride as they took part in the annual Aldridge road race.
More than 550 hardy athletes braved the rain to hit the streets for the annual 10k and 5k runs,despite the childrens race being cancelled amid safety fears.
Aldidge born paralympic swimming sensation Eleanor Simmonds,who is used to making a splash in the pool was on hand to help get the race underway.
The 14 year old,who grabbed the head lines after winning two gold medals in Beijing last summer,said she was honoured to have been asked tostart the race.
"I come back here every weekend to see some old friends so I feel really happy to be here for this today and be able to do this for Aldridge"said Ellie
The race organised by Aldridge Race club,attracts runners from across the country.The first male runner home in the 10k run was John Pepper from Enfield and Haringey Athletics Club who recorded a time of 31 minutes and 53 seconds.
The first female runner was Claire Martin of Telford Harriers whofinished in 35 minutes and 40 seconds.
