Space - themed trek is in memory of tragic Rosie

A charity trek in aid of tragic Aldridge teenager Rosie Ross takes place at Aldridge Airport on Sunday 12th July 2009.

Rosie was just 16 when she was fatally stabbed while out shopping with a friend in Birmingham in 2001.Since then her devoted parents Karen and Sean Ross have channelled all their energies into raising funds in Rosie's memory,to benefit youngsters locally.

This weekend they're hoping to top previous walks with an out- of -this- world experience.Karen Ross said "This year we have a space theme that has really taken off with a Dr Who look alike and Daleks making an appearance on the day and the chance to view real planets if the weather is clear.

"The support we received last year was amazing with people raising a fantastic £15,000,which helped several youth projects in the area"

As well as the walk, visitors can enjoy making astronaut and alien masks,a small fun fair, and lots more.

For more information and sponsor forms call Karen Ross on 01922-456398.

Campaigners step up battle against centre

Residents fighting for the closure of a bail hostel in Aldridge today held a protest outside the premises in a bid to step up the pressure on its operators.

Around 100 campaigners, some waving banners reading "say no to the hostel, joined the demonnstration organised by Aldridge Action Group. They are pressing for more information about who is staying at the Stonnall Road Centre fearing there may be a threat to the community.Councillors for the area also attended the event and some gave speeches.

Father of three Shaun Simms,of Aldridge Action Group, lives near the hostel,"We would like more consultation and be invited to meetings to see what kind of residents are being placed at the hostel" he said.

Aldridge North and Walsall Wood representative Councillor Mike Flower  has written to Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw to ask him to consider closing down the bail hostel following reports of an alleged assualt on a teenage girl.
