Aldridge South and Streetly Neighbourhood Partnership.

What is a Local Neighbourhood Partnership ?

Local Neighbourhood Partnership (LNP) are partnerships which are set up to influence decision making in their areas.There are nine LNPs across Walsall,each covering 2 or 3 wards; each partnership is made up of :-

  • All ward Councillors in the area.
  • Up to ten representatives from local voluntary and community organisations.
  • Strategic partners representing :- Teaching,Primary Care Trust,Police,Education,Community Engagement Network,Housing,and the Fire Service.

LNPs have been set up by Walsall Council in 2004 and governance of the LNPs has moved from the council to Walsall Borough Strategic Partnership (WBSP) in 2006.LNPs contribute towards the vision of Walsall Council and WBSP.

LNP s aim to influence services which are being delivered in their area by working in partnership with various service deliverers and the community.Working as a partnership will ensure services in LN areas are meeting the needs of residents and partners,it also ensures resources are maximised to their fullest potential.

What will this agreement be used for ?

This agreement will be the key document for the Local Neighbourhood Partnerships to work towards throughout 2007 -2009.It contains the LNP pledges which have been developed through consultation with the community and service deliverers and aims to reflect the needs and wants of the community.The pledges are key priorities for the LNP's and throughout the period of the Neighbourhood Agreement the LNP will monitor progress on delivery of the pledges.

The agreement also contains information which will help inform people of the demographics of the area and of major projects which will happen in he area over the coming ears.It also hasa usefull list at thebak of he document for information.

The Neighbourhood Agreement will be available at a selection of community venues and through the LNP website.It will also be sent out to key partners in the borough.By sharing the Neighbourhood Agreement with partners and community representatives,the LNP aims to seek greater involvement in the development and implementation of the pledges.

 

Priorities for the Organisation are :-

(1) Improve Communication to inform people  what is happening and available in their LNP area. Develope e - communication. Encourage people to feel proud of Aldrdge South and Streety.

  • To provide people with up - dated information regarding activities in the LNP area using a new website.
  • Ensure positive news stories regarding LNP successes and achievements are communicated through appropriate channels effectively and effcently.Utilise local newsletters and magazines to promote CAG/LNP dates and achievements

 

(2) For people to feel safe and secure.

  • To implement the "Respect Agenda" locally with the view of addressing the ASB issues in the area.
  • To work with other organisations to encourage more parental involvement in reducing anti social behaviour.
  • To develope and provide sports opportunities for young people in order to reduce ASB.

 

(3)Healthy place to live for all.

  • To develope a health promotional event / campaign to encourage people to adopt a more actve life style.
  • To ensure that people are aware of exerxcse plans available through GP Practce Nurses.
  • To engage schools with a Healthy Eating Programme.

 

(4) Listen to what young people want.

  • To help improve links with young people by holding a multi agency youth consultation event.
  • Support the consultation feedback through establishing or supporting the existing Youth Forum to help improve communications and further develop consultation feedback.
  • To support existing facilities by promoting local activities for youn people.

 

Profile of the Area.

Aldridge South and Streetly LNP is located to the East of the Borough and consists of a considerable amount of open countryside.The district centre of Aldridge is one of Walsall main and attractive shopping centre and is located within this area.

The Population.

Over the last decade the population in this area as decreased slighty by around 2.0%.There is a higher proportion of people aged over 60 than there are school aged children in the area.A small proportion of the population are from black and minority etnic communities (3.6%) compared to the Borough average.A recent survey indicates that 86% of people in the area are very / fairly satisfied with the area as a place to live.

The Economy

There are 782 businessess within the area of which 29.9% are wholesale/retail.Unemployment is low,an average of 1.7% of the working age population claiming job seekers Allowance benefits compared to the Borough average of 3.9%.

Education and Training

There are 8 Primary schools:-

  • Cooper and Jordan.Aldridge
  • Leigswood.Aldridge
  • Whetstone Field .Aldridge
  • St Marys  of the Angels Catholic.Aldridge
  • Lindens Primary .Streetly
  • Blackwood.Streetly
  • Manor Primary.Streetly
  • St Annes Catholic Primary.Streetly.

and three Secodary Shools :-

  • Aldridge School A Science Colledge,Tynings Lane,Aldridge.WS9 OBG.
  • St Francis  of Assisi Catholic Technology College,Erdington Road,Aldridge.WS9ORN
  • Streetly.

Agreater proportion of 16 year olds (67.1%) obtained passes of 5 or more GSCEs A - C compared with Walsall as a whole.The proportion of 16 - 19 year olds Not in Education,Employment or training (NEET) IS 2.4 % compared with the Borough average.  (6.6%). 30% of the population in this area have no qualifications,which is less than the borough average.

Housing and Transport.

Over three quarters of the housing in this area is owner occupied (87%) with the majority being either detached or semi detached.House prices for all property types are considerably higher than the borough average.

Car ownership is high (only 17%  of households do not qwn a car) resulting in a lower dependance on public transport.

Health.

Births to teenage mothers are low compared to the Borough average.Just over a third of the population aged 16 to 74 are economically inactive,the majority are retired.Deaths from all causes are slighttly higher than the national average.

Crime.

The rate of total recorded crime in this area is well below the Borough average.Other key crime types (burglary,criminal damage and vehicle crime) are alsao below the Borough averages.
