The Mayors Civic Awards held on Friday 31st October 2003, at Bescot Stadium,Walsall,celebrating the success of people of Walsall.
Dusan Popratnjak (Chairman) and Roy Knight (Secretary ) both attended the event.
The awards have been named he "Doras" after Sister Dora,one of the boroughs best known historical figures.Sister Dora was born Dorothy Wyndlow Pattison,in Yorkshire,in 1832.She arrived in Walsal in 1865 and was adopted by the towns folk following a series of disasters where she showed her trade mark of compassion and dedication to those in need of care.

Aldridge Friends of the Croft Residents Association has contributed significantly to improving the quality of life within the Aldridge Community.They have supported local events in Aldridge such as Aldridge Lions fun day,Aldridge Cricket clubs 150 year celebration,
The event was held at Bescot Stadium and awards were presented by Noddy Holder MBE. Noddy is hosting the first ever Mayors civic awards which will honour local people and organisations in the borough.The famous Walsall - born musician,singer,actor and presenter announced the nine categories.The winner in each category received their "Dora "award presented by the mayor of Walsall Councillor Arthur Bentley.
Noddy said "This is a great opportunity for the people of Walsall to nominate an individual or organisation for a civic award.I would urge residents to fill in and complete forms and post them asap.Noddy stated he was really looking forward to coming back to the Black Country as he always has a great time with fantastic people.
The mayor of Walsall,Councillor Arthur Bentley said we are all absolutely delighted that Noddy Holder agreed to be the guest of honour,espicially as he is Walsall born and bred.
Noddy will be able to see some of the exceptional work carried out in the town by local residents,voluntary organisations and businesses.
A Great Response to Mayors Civic Awards.
Walsall Council has recieved more than 160 nominations for its first ever Mayors Civic Awards which will honour local people and organisations in the borough.A selection of independant panels selected three finalists for each catogory.The winners in each category were announced on the night.
The nine award categories were:-
- The Safer Community Award.
- The Good Citizen Award.
- The Cultural Development Award.
- The Overcoming all Odds Award.
- The Environment Award.
- The Young Citizen Award.
- The Voluntary Oganisation Award.
- The Celebrating Diversity Award.
- The Community Health Award.
