Aldridge Friends of the Croft were reformed in 1999 to campaign against the Aldridge Snooker Club, being a planning application (BC 59O81P) being made to change of use to become a "Night Club".We changed the name to Aldridge Residents Association to cover all of the Aldridge area as perception was the group was only based around the village green known as the Croft.
Since then we have advised residents in Aldridge and campaigned against local planning applications that our members have felt would be detremental to the area.
As a group we supported the campaign to keep the fire station in its current location.
Also against the planning application to convert the Aldridge clinic in to a fast foods retail unit.We supported the planning application -proposals to build the retirement homes keeping it in character with the rest of the dwellings in Leighswood Road and the residents wishes.
Worked in Partnership with the Redhouse Tenants and Residents Association through their chair Mrs Pauline Heydon.
Sent members of our committee to attend Health Watch,Neighbourhood Watch and Police Consultative committee, and Local Neighbourhood Partnership meetings.
Organised many activities for Residents to "Disney on Ice", Trips to Highball House,Malvern, Athletics meetings at the NIA.
Letter from the Walsall Observor
Former friends
In my recent election address I stated that I used to be a member of the "Friends of the Croft" campaign. Two of the three remaining original members of the "Friends of the Croft" committee called me Mrs M Pheasant and Mrs P Kirby. There were only six members of the F of the C committee, the remainder of us were supporters. The original members took the fight to the High Court in London in battle which lasted three days.I along with a number of Aldridge people were strong supporters ofthe action toprevent a road across the Croft to service the roof top car park, but I was not one of the famous six.
My election address sought to show that the new friends of the Croft had nothing to do with the old friends of the croft.

Aldridge.
The current Aldridge Friends of the Croft have never ever claimed to be part of the original group, these events had happened many years ago, they were formed to prevent the night club application in Aldridge town centre. They are glad that these group campained to save the croft.
