Volunteers needed to help with local carnival.

Volunteers are needed to help make this year's Brownhills water-side carnival a success. The date has been set for June 28th for the canalside festival in Silver Street,Brownhills.Committee member Gerald Bickley said "Unfortunately as the festival has grown the number of helpers has diminished and as we are all getting older,we really could do with more volunteers. There is no need to join  a committee or attend meetings,we just need a few people to come forward and help either on the day or preparing the night before.Even a couple of hours here and there would be very much appreciated. The jobs are numerous, tying up bunting, managing a stall, becoming a marshall, directing stall - holders, laying out chairs and tables and litter collecting.

Any one who can help is asked to call 01543- 361144.

Aldridge Residents Association

As a group we have actively supported local events:-

  • Nick Knights Benefit game at Aldridge Cricket Club. On Sunday 16th May,we supported Aldridge Cricket Club with the loan of our Bouncy Castle to raise funds. The sun shone on a healthy crowd as Aldridge C.C. took on the might of Warwickshire C.C. at The Green recently as part of former England opener Nick Knight's benefit game.South African Dewald Pretorious treated the spectators to a lightning 78,hitting the adjoining football pitch with one fearsome shot as Aldridge fielders took a little time to to gain their footing in the intense heat.Club stalwarts Neil Steadman and Howard Shippy gradually began to show their mettle with the ball and Chris de Witt recovered from an early slip up in the field to record figures of 3 - 69,as well as take the all important catch to dismiss Knight, who had ambled gracefully to his half century.Ian Bell (38) and Johnathon Trott (36) also figured in the Bears' entertaining innings, which closed on 266-7. Jay Bradburn arrested Aldridge's decline in reply with a fine 51,youngster Inderdeep Singh added 35 and Andy Wylie sent the ball onto the roof of the Home for the Elderly and Infirm - a great distance - in his 39.Aldridge finished with a creditable 227 - 9 after a very enjoyable afternoon of cricket.
